TopBrewer experience for new collaborative workspace at Sun Life Financial of Canada.
Move to agile working
As part of their move to more agile working, Sun Life Financial of Canada redesigned their office space with specialist workplace designers Area to accommodate their 120 employees in one wing of their building at Matrix House in Basingstoke.
The design and central location of the new kitchen and open seating areas has played a huge part in creating the desired communal environment, which is now used by employees company-wide throughout the day for breaks, lunch and meetings. The TopBrewer situated in the new kitchen area has helped to create a communal hub, ‘collision’ opportunities and impromptu connections.
Key facts
The TopBrewer has provided a real focal point in the kitchen area with its iPad-controlled operation and employees love the great coffee quality.

The whole design of this new consolidated work space has been a really positive step forward in creating a community feel and more informal communication.
The collaborative space also lends itself to meetings with suppliers, where they can grab a premium coffee, and the use of ‘collaboration tables’ encourages informal conversation and meetings between senior management and employees.
Sun Life Financial of Canada selected the TopBrewer following a design day meeting at the office of their designers, Area, where they saw how it would fit seamlessly into their new, modern office environment and provide employees with a premium coffee offering in the work place.
Key features
Our aim was to give the work space a new lease of life and create a modern, open environment that supports the change to agile working at Sun Life Financial of Canada.
A key part of this was the design of a refreshment area with a café feel, and the TopBrewer fits perfectly into this collaboration area where employees are enthusiastic to work together.
TopBrewer provides a wide range of barista-style, bean-to-cup beverages from a sleek swan neck tap, with the machine itself discreetly housed under the counter to provide a clutter-free service area.
Staff and visitors make drinks to their exact requirements through the iPad set into the worktop or through the app on their phone.
