Scanomat UK is delighted and proud to share the promotion of Andrea Jones to Regional Director (Workspace).
We all know coffee is delicious, and (as you can read in this blog post) it can have some fantastic health benefits. But that’s not the only thing you can do with your coffee. The next time the coffee grounds bin needs emptying, don’t just throw it out. Each year, the UK produces 500,000 tonnes of waste coffee grounds each year. Instead of adding to this pile of waste, read on to find out how to recycle your coffee grounds!
Scanomat once again wowed the crowd
What a great 5 days we had at HOST 17 in Milan in October, where the Scanomat UK team joined Scanomat AS and thousands of visitors experienced the versatility of the TopBrewer family of products.
The stand showcased four main areas to spotlight our latest innovations and to demonstrate how diverse the TopBrewer is; ColdBrew, Hospitality, Office, and Café.
It might be obvious, but here at Scanomat, we LOVE coffee. It’s our passion, and we pride ourselves on not only developing one of the most technologically advanced coffee machines in the world, but also providing the best quality coffee to go with it.
Only the top 1% of coffee beans are selected to make up our Amokka Coffee range. They are shipped from our partner farms across the world to our head office in Denmark, where they are micro-roasted to ensure the best quality, every time.
We could talk all day about our coffee, but is there actually any benefit to drinking it? Over the years, there have been many conflicting ideas about the benefits of coffee.
So, why should you start your day with a coffee?
This weekend (20th-24th October 2017), some of the Scanomat UK team will be heading over to Milan for the 40th annual HostMilano event.
The show has established itself as the leading event in the Ho.Re.Ca industries. HostMilano offers a preview of innovations in technologies in food equipment, food products, the world of coffee, as well as in design and lifestyle.
The Rise of the “Coffice”
With many coffee shops and cafes now providing free wifi as standard we have seen a rise in individuals working from coffee shops, so much so that a new term has been coined to describe the use of coffee shops as offices. The “Coffice” is defined in the urban dictionary as “A coffee shop one makes into an office where non-coffee shop work is performed.” The ‘home from home’ environment, social aspect and good quality coffee makes the “coffice” a very appealing workplace for many and in this blog we explore why.
Orangebox are well known for their contemporary furniture that is intelligently designed and customer focussed. Recently, Orangebox opened their Smartworking Space in Clerkenwell, London. Not only does the Smartworking Space show off Orangebox’s cutting-edge furniture range, it also acts as a dynamic, ever-evolving exploration of the diverse scenarios, challenges, opportunities, tasks and requirements of the contemporary workspace and workforce.
When Orangebox chose to install a TopBrewer into their new Smartworking Space (you can read more about it here), they were invited to become one of our Strategic Partners.
Desks are getting smaller but the office footprint isn’t shrinking, instead businesses are moving away from conventional office design in favour of creating more inviting and flexible workspaces that foster collaboration and provide an escape from the traditional desk.
As breakout areas become more popular in the workspace across all sectors (not just tech companies), so too does the demand for premium barista-quality beverages and other enticing refreshments, giving the much sought-after millennial generation little reason to leave the office.
WorkTech is the “unmissable” event for senior corporate workplace professionals and we are delighted to be sponsoring for the fourth consecutive year. This much anticipated event attracts over 3000 professionals over the course of the 2 days, all of whom are involved in the future of work and the workplace across a broad spectrum of industries.
The new show follows actor & presenter Alexis Conran and comedian Marcus Brigstocke as they put all manner of technology to the test in a hilarious battle of wills; Alexis is a modern man and self-confessed gadget geek, whilst Marcus is a technophobe who prefers more traditional low-tech solutions. But what will the two friend’s make of the TopBrewer when they visit London’s Smart APP-artment?

Millennials are set to form more than 50% of the global workforce by 2020, making it more important than ever for employers to adapt their approach to attract and retain the best talent, without inadvertently alienating older colleagues.
Also known as “Generation Y”, Millennials are the youngest members of today’s workforce and are defined as being born between 1980 and the year 2000. Due to major advancements in technology, millennials have been brought up very differently to their Generation X and Baby Boomer predecessors and as a result are having a huge impact on the future of workplace design, culture and management style.
Did you know that the amount of coffee you drink could have something to do with your DNA? A new study by Edinburgh University has identified that your genes can have a direct impact on your coffee consumption.
According to the new report, people who possess a specific gene called PDSS2 usually drink less coffee than those without the gene. This is because the gene reduces the ability for the body to breakdown caffeine and therefore means you need less coffee to get your caffeine boost.
Researchers surveyed over 1200 people in Italy and found that those without the gene PDSS2 drank an average of one extra cup of coffee per day.
These results back up previous studies which show links between genetics and coffee consumption, although larger studies are needed to confirm the findings.
So next time you feel a craving for coffee it could be down to your DNA!
